There are two examples of size reduction equipment that James Fisher Nuclear has developed for BNFL. One system is for the size reduction of melter crucibles in the Vitrification plant at Sellafield and the other is a gas cutting torch for the reduction of main structural members inside the Windscale AGR. Both items of equipment are installed and operated remotely. There are other smaller size reduction tools that have been developed for manipulator deployment including an hydraulic nibbler, electrical reciprocating saw and a hammer/chisel drill.
