Many of the bespoke design and manufacture projects have been for the inspection of plant, after many years of use, in order to establish that the condition is safe for continued operation. The photograph below shows a manipulator deployment and control system that was used to inspect the state of the main pressure vessel welds for the Calder and Chapelcross reactors. This equipment was supplied in 1991 and continued to be used during refuelling shut downs until the reactors were closed for final defuelling.
